Ladies Midwest Shootout Final Results

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Despite playing without senior Maria Hernandez, the ninth-ranked golfer in the country, the Purdue women's golf team finished in fourth place at the 2009 Ladies Midwest Shootout with a 36-hole score of 625 (+49). Sophomore Maude-Aimee LeBlanc won medalist honors with a two-round score of 147 (+3).
Hernandez was held out of the lineup to rest in preparation for the Big Ten Women's Golf Championship hosted by Purdue at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex Kampen Course on April 26 to 28.
LeBlanc posted the tournament's low round, firing a second round one-under par 71, along with an opening round score of 76 (+4). This was the Sherbrooke, Quebec, native's first individual tournament victory of the season and fifth top-five finish.
Purdue also landed two other golfers in the top 15. Sophomore Thea Hoffmeister finished in third place, firing an opening round 74 (+2) and final round 76 (+4), totaling a total score of 150 (+6). Sophomore Junthima Gulyanamitta landed in 15th place with a 36-hole score of 159 (+14, 78-81).
Freshman Vaishavi Sinha finished in a tie for 28th (+25 86-83=169), while Carolyn Mess tied for 34th (+30, 91-83=174).
Kent State won the event with a two-round score of 610 (+34), five strokes better than second place Vanderbilt (615, +39).
The one-day event was hosted by Purdue at the 6,333-yard, par-72 Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Ind.
Purdue will be back in action when they host the 2009 Big Ten Women's Golf Championship on April 24 to 26.
