Steady Improvement Lands Boilers In Seventh

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Purdue men's golf team concluded play on Saturday with a cumulative score of 906 (+42) at the Linger Longer Invitational. The Boilermakers used a third round score of 295 (+7) after shooting a 310 and 301 in rounds one and two. Purdue's score placed them in 7th in the field of 13.

The tournament, which was co-hosted by Kennesaw State and Mercer, was played at the Reynolds Landing Golf Course in Greensboro, Georgia. The course is a par-72, 7,048-yard venue. The tournament boasted a field of 13 teams, including the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs and the second ranked Cowboys of Oklahoma State.

Georgia won the tournament with a cumulative score of 867 (+3). Georgia and Oklahoma State were tied heading into the final round with scores of 579 (+3) . Oklahoma State shot a final round 290 (+2), two strokes worse than Georgia's 288 (E). Oklahoma State finished in second with a score of 869 (+5).

Trent Whitekiller of Oklahoma State won the tournament with a cumulative score of 208, eight strokes under par. Whitekiller fired a score of 74 (+2) in round one but used a 68 (-4) in round two and a tournament low 66 (-6) in round three to finish atop the leader board. Bill Jones of Mercer and Connor McHenry of Wichita State tied for second with scores of 209 (-7).

Tyler Duncan led Purdue with a score of 222 (+6). Duncan used a final round 73 (+1) to finish in a tie for 15th. William Sjaichudin rebounded from a first round 82 (+10) with a team low second round score of 72 (E). Sjaichudin concluded play on Saturday with a cumulative score of 228 (+12). The score was good for a tie of 33rd with fellow Boilermaker Maximo Kopp. Other scoring Boilermakers included Erich Johnston and David Gerzstein who tied for 33rd with a score of 233 (+17). All five players contributed at least one round to the Boiler's final score.
