RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - The 15th-ranked women's golf team carded a tournament-best even-par 288 at the second round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic and lead the field by 10 strokes heading into tomorrow's third and final round. Senior Maria Hernandez currently sits in a tie for first place with a two-round total 146 (+2).
The Lady Boilermakers have four golfers in the top-15 as individuals, separated by only four strokes. Hernandez is in a four-way tie for first place after firing a one-under-par 71 on Monday to add to her opening round 75 (+3).
Two strokes behind Hernandez and in a tie for ninth place are redshirt freshman Thea Hoffmeister and sophomore Maude-Aimee Leblanc. Hoffmeister carded a 71 (-1) on Monday, six strokes fewer than her opening round 77 (+5), while Leblanc shot a 71 (-1) on Monday to go with her opening round 75 (+3). Both golfers have a two-round total 148 (+4).
Four strokes off the pace and in a tie for 15th is teammate Junthima Gulyanamitta. Gulyanamitta turned in a 73 (+1) and a 77 (+5) in her first two rounds.
Freshman Vaishavi Sinha enters tomorrow's final round in a tie for 73rd with a two-round total 164 (+20, 85, 79).
Trailing the first place Boilermakers (592, +16) are second place Georgia (602, +26) and third place TCU (603, +27).
The 54-hole tournament is being played on the par-72, 6,219-yard Coco Beach Golf Course in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
