WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue finished day one with a cumulative score of 292, 4 strokes over par at the 2009 Puerto Rico Classic. The 292 (+4) placed the Boilermakers in ninth place. The tournament features 15 teams, all ranked inside Golfweek's top 70.
The tournament, which Purdue is hosting, is being played at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The River Course is a par-72, 6,902-yard venue.
William Sjaichudin led the Boilermakers with a score of 35 on both the front and back nine. Sjaichudin, who was three-under on the par fives, is tied for seventh with a score of 70 (-2). Other scoring Boilermakers included Tyler Duncan (72), Boom Ratanakul (74), and Erich Johnston (76).
Georgia Tech is leading the tournament with a cumulative score of 280 (-8). Georgia Tech came into the tournament ranked 13th in a field that includes four of the top five ranked teams in the nation. N.C. State, ranked 46th, is currently in second with a score of 281(-7) and Georgia, ranked 2nd, is currently in third with a score of 283 (-5).
Darren Blair of N.C. State and Dylan Fritelli of Texas both used five birdies to register scores of 67 (-5). David May of Clemson and James White of Georgia Tech are tied for third with scores of 68 (-4).
Purdue will begin play at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. Live scoring is not available but check out purduesports.com for round two results.
