AUBURN, Ala. - A strong pitching performance by senior Dana Alcocer helped lead the Boilermakers to a 2-0 win over Winthrop Sunday morning.

Alcocer struck out seven en route to the complete game shutout victory, which moved her to 2-2 on the year. Taylor Wright was charged with the loss for the Eagles after allowing two runs in four innings of work.

Purdue posted its two runs on four hits and an error, while allowing Winthrop six hits in the game. Senior Christina Trauger went 2-for-3 at the plate and recorded the team's lone RBI in the contest.

The Boilermakers scored first, tallying a run on two hits in the second. Sophomore Jenna Alexander singled through the left side to start the stanza. A sacrifice and wild pitch bumped her to third. Senior Alicia Spack drew a two-out walk giving Purdue runners at the corners for senior Christina Trauger. Trauger lasered a single into right field to pick up the RBI and put Purdue on the scoreboard.

Purdue tacked on another run in the fifth, capitalizing on an Eagle miscue. Spack drew a leadoff walk and went to second on a single through the left side by Trauger. Miller hit a fielder's choice back to the pitcher, who overthrew third trying to get the lead runner. The gaffe allowed Spack to score on the play and left runners at second and third. Winthrop brought in Megan Evans to pitch and she promptly retired the next three batters all via strikeout.

Sophomore Suzie Rzegocki lifted a double to the warning track in left center to start the sixth and moved to third on a sacrifice, but was stranded by a grounder to the shortstop.

Winthrop stranded a runner in every inning, including four in scoring position, but could not break the Boilermakers' shutout bid.

Purdue (6-4) wraps up its stay in Alabama with a 3 p.m. ET contest with the host Auburn Tigers.
