WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's swimming and diving team picked up their first dual meet win of the season on Saturday when they defeated Eastern Michigan, 202-135. The Boilermakers (1-4) won six events en route to the victory.
"I thought the overall performance and the attitude of the team was great today. It was an exciting way to end our home meet schedule," head coach John Klinge said.
Allie Smith, Christina Jacobs, Katie Beck and Leah Henninger started things off with a win in the 200 medley relay. The team clocked in at 1:46.00, more than five seconds quicker than second place.
The day's other relay proved solid once again for Purdue, when Ariel Martin, Lauren Roth, Henninger and Lisa Butler chalked up a victory in the 400 free relay. Their time of 3:30.33 was good for the win.
Purdue picked up individual wins by Butler, Smith and Beck. Butler swam the 50 free in 24.17. Smith picked up another win in the 100 back, coming in at 56.07. Beck won the 100 fly by .03 when she checked in at 57.52.
The Boilermakers were also impressive on the board, with Ashley Karnes getting the win in 1-meter. She scored a 314.63, while Ashley Beal put up a 297.98. Beal's mark moves her up to fifth all-time in women's 1-meter.
"The women on the team have trained really hard all fall," Klinge said. "We're going to give them a little bit of rest next week and see how they perform."
The women of Purdue aquatics are back in the pool from Nov. 21-23 when they take part in the Texas A&M Invitational. Check purduesports.com for more updates.
