SKOKIE, Ill. - The 12th-ranked Purdue women's golf team ended the second round of play at the Windy City Collegiate Championships in first place with a two-round total 591 (+15) and an eight-stroke lead over second place Michigan.

Sophomore Junthima Gulyanamitta (138, -6) leads the field as an individual by five strokes over Oklahoma's Ellen Mueller.

Gulyanamitta set the tone early for the Boilermakers, hitting birdies on four holes on the front nine, and opening with a three-under par 69. She managed to keep the pressure on in the second half of the day carding four more birdies in round two and finishing Monday atop the leaderboard with a two-round total 138 (69, 69=138).

In third place is senior Maria Hernandez who opened Monday with a 77 (+5) but brought herself back to even-par by firing an impressive five-under par 67 in the second round. Hernandez bogeyed six holes in the morning round but countered her slow start with six birdies in round two.

Senior Carolyn Mess also made improvements between rounds firing a seven-over par 79 in her opening round, only to shoot four strokes fewer in her second round (75, +3). She currently is dtie for 28th with a two-round total of 154 (+10). One stroke behind Mess is freshman Vaishavi Sinha with a total score of 155 (+11, 76, 79).

Trailing first place Purdue (+15) are Michigan (+23), Oklahoma (+26), Arizona (+27) and TCU (+27).

The 54-hole tournament is being hosted by Northwestern University at the par-72, 6,320 yard Evanston Golf Club in Skokie, Ill.

The third and final round will get underway Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 8 a.m.
