Women's Golf Off to a Slow Start at the Duramed Fall Preview

Owings Mills, Md. - The seventh-ranked Purdue women's golf team is in 14th place after firing a two-round total of 621 on Sunday in the first and second rounds of the 2008 Duramed Fall Preview in Owings Mills, Md. Sophomore Junthima Gulyanamitta leads Purdue and is tied for 13th as an individual.

Purdue started the day shooting a 25-over par 313 in the opening round, but was able to improve by five strokes in the second round, firing a 308. Of the 15 teams in the field, only Georgia and fourth-place Auburn carded sub-par rounds, both shooting a two-under par 286 in the second half of the day.

Georgia leads the event after firing a four-over par total 579 (293-286) in the first two rounds. In striking distance are second-place Virginia (+7, 583), third-place Arizona State (+10, 586) and Auburn (+13, 589). Virginia's Jennie Arseneault (-6) leads all individuals after firing a 68 and 70 in her first two rounds.

Sophomore Junthima Gulyanamitta (+2, 146) had the lowest two-round total for the Boilermakers, ending Sunday tied for 13th place as an individual. Gulyanamitta jumped into the 13th spot after firing a two-under par 70 in the second round, a six-stroke improvement from her first round 76. Senior Maria Hernandez started the day hot, ending the first round tied for 10th after shooting a one-over par 73, but dropped into a tie for 26th (+6, 150) after carding a 77 in her second round.

Sophomore Maude-Aimee LeBlanc finished in a tie for 61st (+17, 161) shooting an 80 and 81 in her first two rounds. Senior Carolyn Mess and freshman Vaishavi Sinha are tied for 67th after both ending the day with a two round total 165. Mess opened with a 84 and finished the second round with a 81, while Sinha shot a 83 and 82.
