WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University men's golf team concluded play on Sunday at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in eighth place with a cumulative score of 900 (+48). The tournament, hosted by Indiana, was played at Wolf Run Golf Course in Zionsville, Ind. The course played to a par of 71 and 7,195 yards long.
After the first of three rounds, Purdue's score of 309 (+25) placed them in a tie for 11th in a field of 14. The Michigan led the tournament with a score of 286 (+2).
The Boilermakers used a strong second round score of 291 (+7) to move up to ninth place as play finished on Saturday. The Boilermakers finished round two with a cumulative score of 600 (+32). Michigan remained atop the leaderboard with a cumulative score of 580 (+12).
On Sunday, the Boilermakers shot 300 (+16) to finish in eighth place for the tournament. The score was tied for the fourth lowest score on Sunday. Michigan, who also shot a 300 on Sunday, won the tournament with a score of 880 (+28). Rounding out the top three were Illinois with an 890 (+38) and Louisville with an 891 (+39).
Senior Tom Oliver led the Boilermakers with scores of 75, 71, and 75, which placed him in a tie for seventh. Oliver's 71 is his lowest score of the season. Indiana's Jorge Campillo won the tournament with two consecutive scores of 70 and a two-over 73 on Sunday.
Boilermaker freshman Tyler Duncan used scores of 79, 71, and 75 to finish in a tie for 19th. Other scoring Boilermakers Erich Johnston, playing in his first tournament of the season, and Nakarintra Ratankul shot scores of 228 (+15) and 229 (+16) respectively.
Purdue's next tournament will be the Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields in Illinois. The tournament will be tee of Friday, Sept. 19, and conclude on Sunday, Sept. 21.
