FARMINGTON, Pa. - The Purdue Boilermakers men's golf team opened the 2008-09 season with a first round 298, nine strokes off the lead at the Rutherford Intercollegiate in Farmington, Pa.
Purdue finished the first day at +10, nine strokes behind team-leader Miami (Ohio). On Purdue's heels after the first 18 holes of the three-day, 54-hole event is host Penn State (+12), Virginia Commonwealth (+13), and Missouri and Richmond tied at +15.
Purdue's Nakarintra Ratanakul shot a minus-2 on the first day, good for second on the individual leaders board behind Miami's Aaron Crist (-3). Only three scored under par on the par-72 course on Day One, with Penn State's Tommy McDonagh (-1) joining Crist and Ratanakul.
Other first round scores for the Boilermakers were Tyler Duncan (+1), William Sjaichudin (+4), Tom Oliver (+7) and Maximo Kopp (+10).
