Albuquerque, N.M.- The schedule of the 2008 NCAA Women's Golf Championships has been adjusted after the second round was suspended due to wind conditions in Albuquerque, N.M. The updated championship format begins Thursday with the conclusion of the second round starting at 9 a.m. ET. The third round will begin at 2:30 p.m. with a shotgun start. The finals are slated to revert back to the original schedule with tee times starting in the morning and concluding in the afternoon.
Southern California and UCLA were tied for the tournament lead at 8-over (584) when play was halted at the par 72, 6,424-yard University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course. Belen Moro from Southern California has the individual lead at 4-under (140).
Only 12 teams finished their second round Wednesday while the others will resume play Thursday morning.
Purdue was one of the 12 teams to get in 18 holes on Wednesday, recording a team score of 304. The Boilermakers two-round total of 602 puts them in 11th place.
The Boilermakers were led by Maria Hernandez who fired a 73 in the second round. Hernandez, who is ranked fourth nationally, has a 147 after two rounds and is tied for 15th. Freshman Junthima Gulyanamitta rebounded from carding a 79 in the opening round to shoot Purdue's second-lowest score of the day with a 75. She is tied for 73rd with a combined score of 154.
Junior Christel Boeljon is tied for 30th after firing a 77 in the second round. She has a two-day total of 150. Freshman Maude-Aimee Leblanc dropped to a tie for 44th with a 79 on Wednesday. LeBlanc had opened with an even-par 72 and is one stroke behind Boeljon with a total score of 151. Junior Stephanie Oukeo recorded an 83 in windy conditions and is tied for 116th with a total of 163.
Play was stopped at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday due to high winds and resumed again at 5:19 p.m. The official suspension came at 6:55 p.m. when teams were alerted to clear the course.
