Final Stats

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide issued the Boilermaker softball team its first loss of the season Friday night, topping Purdue 8-0.

The Crimson Tide scored its eight runs on 11 hits, including six for extra bases, while Purdue managed just two hits.

Junior Katie Mitchell and sophomore Ashley Barr accounted for the team's two hits, posting singles to lead off the second and fourth respectively. Both advanced to second, but were left on base at inning's end.

Mitchell singled to center to start the second and was sacrificed to second by junior Candace Curtis. Barr reached on a bunt single and advanced to second on the play on an errant throw by the pitcher.

For its part, Alabama tallied one run in the first, two in the second, one in the third and four in the fourth.

Kelsi Dunne earned the victory for Alabama, while junior Dana Alcocer (1-1) was charged with the loss in the complete game effort.

The Boilermakers (1-1) return to action at 2 p.m. (EST) Saturday when they take on the South Alabama Jaguars. Live stats for the game will be provided on purduesports.com. Purdue rounds up its stay in Alabama at 6 p.m. Saturday when they face No. 4 Alabama in a rematch of tonight's game.
