Puerto Rico Classic Round One Results ![]()
RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - After one round of play in the Puerto Rico Classic, the Purdue men's golf team finds itself in 15th place after shooting a 20-over par 308 on Friday.
Thirteen of the nation's top 50 teams are participating in this year's tournament, including four teams in the top six Golfweek's team rankings. Following the first round of play, No. 4 Oklahoma State shares the top spot in the team rankings with No. 16 Clemson, which finished as the runner-up in last season's event. The Cowboys and the Tigers each fired a combined team score of four-under 284. They are the only schools to finish the first day under par.
Junior Michael Randle led the way for the Boilermakers, firing a one-over 73 on the day, ranking him in a tie for 24th individually. Four Boilermaker freshmen round out the scoring roster, with David Gersztein and Erich Johnson each firing rounds of six-over 78, which places them in a tie for 64th.
Freshman Nakarintra Batanakul shot a 79, while classmate Maximo Kopp turned in a round of 80. Freshman Coy Breen, who is competing as an individual, posted a three-over 75.
Chesson Hadley of Georgia Tech and Matthew Swan of Alabama are the clubhouse leaders after the first day. Both Hadley and Swan shot a six-under par 66.
