KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Purdue women's golf team advanced in the consolation bracket of the Hooters Match Play Championship by defeating eighth-seeded Denver 3-2-0 in the third round on Monday. The 10th-ranked and fourth-seeded Boilermakers will face 11th-seeded New Mexico on Tuesday in the final match of the event in Kissimmee, Fla.
Juniors Maria Hernandez and Christel Boeljon each won their matches today. Hernandez defeated Denver's Dawn Shockley 1-up and Boeljon bested Stephanie Sherlock 2-up. Freshman Junthima Gulyanamitta was the third victorious Boilermaker. She beat Katie Kempter by holding a three-stroke advantage with two holes to play.
Junior Stephanie Oukeo dropped her match against Ellie Givens, 4 and 3 and freshman Maude-Aimee Leblanc lost her first match of the tournament, falling to Chelsea Benton 2 and 1.
The Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship is a modified double-elimination event being held at the Ginn Reunion Resort's Independence Course. Invitation to the tournament was based on 2007 NCAA Championships finish.
The final round begins Tuesday morning, with Purdue playing for the consolation bracket championship.
