SACRAMENTO, Ca. - Purdue University junior Astin Steward was the Boilermakers' lone competitor on the third day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at Sacramento State University in Sacramento, Ca. on Friday. Steward threw in the finals of the women's discus, but was unable to move past the semifinal flight.
Steward moved into the semifinal field of 12 with a throw of 50.69 meters (166-04) on Wednesday. She marked a best throw of 50.21 meters (164-09) this afternoon, which was good for 10th place in the day's opening flight, but excluded her from the championship flight.
Purdue's final chance to place at the 2007 championships rests on the shoulders of senior Lindsey Blaine, who will battle for a top-eight spot in the women's javelin tomorrow at 10 a.m. PST.
