SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - The Purdue men's golf team did not get the start they were hoping for in the first round of the NCAA Central Regional in Sugar Grove, Ill. The Boilermakers are in a three-way tie for 21st after recording a team total of 320.

The course, Rich Harvest Farms a par 72, 7,214 yard course, played tough today with no team recording a below-par score. Louisville is in first place with a score of 294, six strokes over. Wisconsin and Texas are tied for 2nd with a team total of 303 (+15). Only five individuals shot even par or better, led by Louisville's Derek Fathauer who shot a 70, putting him in first place.

Senior Peter Richardson was Purdue's low golfer on Thursday, firing a three-over par 75. Richardson birdied two holes and is tied for 18th.

Sophomore Tom Oliver fired a 77 and is tied for 35th. Senior Pariya Junhasavasdikul carded an 83, which has him tied for 98th place.

Freshman Vince Nadeau and sophomore Michael Randle are tied for 115th after both recording rounds of 85.

A total of 27 teams and six individuals are competing in the central regional. The top 10 teams and the top two individuals who are not members of those 10 teams, will advance to the NCAA Men's Golf Championships on May 30 to June 2, at the Gold Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va.
