ATHENS, Ga. - The Purdue University women's golf team climbed two spots in the final day of the 35th annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, hosted by the University of Georgia, to finish fifth overall with a team score of 902. Sophomore Maria Hernandez led the way, sharing medalist honors with her three-day total of 215.
Hernandez fired her lowest round of the tournament on the final day, posting a 70 to finish in a three-way tie for the individual crown. Sophomore Christel Boeljon was the Boilers' next finisher, recording a 226 (75-76-75) to tie for 24th, while senior teammate Myrte Eikenaar tied for 42nd with a three-day total of 230 (75-75-79). Freshman Stefanie Endstrasser closed out Purdue's scoring with a 232 (82-75-75), good for 45th place. Fellow first-year finished just outside the scoring, registering a 241.
Auburn University captured the overall team title, finishing the tournament with an 881 total.
The Boilermakers return to action in two weeks, April 6-8, at the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C.
