WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermaker men's golf team started the year off right with a third place finish in the Olympia Fields Country Club Fighting Illini Invitational. After the third and final round of play Purdue finished with a team score of 871, just seven strokes behind tournament winning Duke and one stroke behind second-place Stanford.

Purdue had two golfers finish in the top ten, including an excellent performance by sophomore Tom Oliver who concluded the tournament tied for third on the individual leaderboard. Oliver shot a 75 on Monday after first day scores of 71 and 67.

The other strong finisher for Purdue was senior Pariya Junhasavasdikul who shot a final round even-par 70 to go with his earlier rounds of 71 and 74. He finished tied for seventh.

Senior Peter Richardson also carded a 70 in the final round to improve to a tie for 28th.

Freshman Vince Nadeau was the most consistent Boilermaker recording a final round 75 to go with a 74 and 75 yesterday. Those scores earned him a 32nd place finish. Right behind Nadeau was junior Santiago Russi who finished tied for 33rd after a final round 74.

The tournament was held at the par-70, 7,200-yard Olympia Fields Country Club's North Course, site of the 2003 U.S. Open Championship.

Purdue is back in action Oct. 9 and 10 at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
