The Purdue women's golf team is in 14th place, among tough competition, after the first round of the 2006 Golf Daytona Beach NCAA Fall Preview in Daytona Beach, Fla. Fourteen of the 18 teams in this tournament competed in the NCAA Championships last spring.
As a team the Boilermakers shot 311 (+23) in the first round to trail first-place Georgia by 22 strokes. Purdue was led by sophomores Christel Boeljon, who shot a two-over 74 which has her tied for 16th, and Maria Hernandez who carded a 78, good for a tie in 48th place.
Rounding out the top four for the Boilermakers were senior Myrte Eikenaar who is tied for 58 with a first round 79 and sophomore Stephanie Oukeo, tied for 66th with a round of 80. Freshman Fabienne In-Albon also shot an 80.
Tennessee's Nicole Smith is the individual leader after shooting a five-under 67. First place Georgia has four players in the top ten with Carolina Andrade tied for third, Taylor Leon tied for sixth and both Whitney Wade and Mallory Hetzel tied for eighth.
Day two will start Saturday at 8 a.m. at the LPGA International's Legends Course, while Sunday marks the final day of action with an 8 a.m. start as well. Live scoring can be found at golfstat.com.
