Strong Finish

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Purdue women's golf team fought back from ninth place after two rounds to finish fifth at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Nashville, Tenn. on Sunday.

The eighth-ranked Boilermakers fired the second-lowest round of the day to climb back into the top five. Purdue carded a 289 on Sunday and totaled 881 over the three days. Top-ranked Duke won the event with a total of 863. Third-ranked Georgia placed second and UCLA took home third. Arizona was the only team to go lower than the Boilermakers on Sunday (287) and finished fourth.

Sophomore Maria Hernandez posted her second sub-par round of the season with a 71 on Sunday. She finished tied for sixth overall. Hernandez had rounds of 70 and 74 in the first two rounds.

Sophomore Christel Boeljon shook off a six-over 78 on Friday with consecutive sub-par rounds on Saturday and Sunday. She registered a team-low 68 in the final round. Her round included six birdies on Sunday. She tied for eighth place overall.

Senior Myrte Eikenaar tied for 38th after carding a final-round 75. Sophomore Stephanie Oukeo finished 45th with a 75 on Sunday.

Junior Whitney Frykman posted a 76 and tied for 55th.

The Mason Rudolph Championship was held at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The Ironhorse Course, is a 6,347-yard, par-72 layout.

The Boilermakers are in action again on Sept. 22 in the NCAA Preview in Daytona Beach, Fla.
