WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue put a nice finishing touch on its 2006 regular season Sunday, with a women's tennis victory over Minnesota in Minneapolis. The victory improved the 46th-ranked Boilermakers to 12-9 overall and 6-4 in the Big Ten, while the Golden Gophers dropped to 5-17 and 2-8.

Purdue scored first by winning two of three doubles matches to secure the first point of the day. Senior Brittany Minna and freshman Anna Dzeva teamed for an 8-1 win over Shelby Rohrer and Megan Steiger at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Stephanie Wooten and freshman Randi Schuler clinched the point with an 8-2 victory over Danielle Mousseau and Mariana Spilca at No. 2.

The Boilermakers cruised in singles, winning all six matches; five of the six victories came in straight sets. First off the court was 98th-ranked freshman Mallory Voelker, who breezed past Mousseau by a 6-1, 6-0 score at No. 3. Schuler, ranked 95th, finished next with a 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Nischela Reddy at No. 1. Dzeva clinched the team victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Jane Anderson at No. 5.

Adding points for Purdue were Wooten at No. 4, Minna at No. 6, and sophomore Brooke Beier at No. 2.

The 7-0 win was Purdue's third of the year and second against a Big Ten team this spring (also Wisconsin).

Purdue will own the No. 5 seed in the Big Ten Championships next weekend. The Boilermakers will receive a first-round bye before meeting fourth-seeded Indiana in a Friday quarterfinal in Champaign, Ill.
