FULLERTON, Ind. - No. 6 Stanford held the Boilermaker softball team to just two hits en route to a 4-0 win at the Worth Invitational on Friday. Senior Diana LaRiva struck out seven in a complete-game effort, but could not hold off the Cardinal offense.

Stanford broke the scoreless tie in the third inning with a three-run home run by Maddy Coon. The two-out homer scored Anna Beardman, who singled and Catalina Morris, who was hit by a pitch. A strike out ended the inning.

A fifth-inning single up the middle by Michelle Smith added another run for the Cardinal, scoring Morris, who reached on a bunt single and moved to second on a single to left.

The Boilermakers got their first base runner in the sixth inning as sophomore Tiffany Krcelich (Granger, Ind.) hit a two-out single to second base. A strikeout prevented her from scoring.

Senior Tricia Lilley (North Canton, Ohio) supplied another hit in the top of the seventh as a two-out pop up landed untouched between the shortstop and third baseman. A grounder to short ended Purdue's bid for a comeback.

Stanford scored four runs on six hits, while Purdue posted two hits in the contest.

Missy Penna (9-2) earned the complete game victory for the Cardinal, while LaRiva (Tustin, Calif.) was charged with the loss despite striking out seven in the complete game effort.

The Boilermakers (8-7) return to action at 11:15 a.m. Saturday when they take on No. 12 Georgia.
