WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win at UC Irvine on Thursday. The 36th-ranked Boilermakers are now 6-4 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten, while the 45th-ranked Anteaters are 8-8.
The win for Purdue was its third against a top-50 ranked team this season; the Boilermakers also have recorded victories over No. 19 Kentucky and No. 49 Illinois.
Purdue jumped out to a 1-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles matches. The winning continued in singles, with the Boilermakers taking four of six contests. Singles winners were freshman Randi Schuler at No. 2, sophomore Brooke Beier at No. 3, freshman Mallory Voelker at No. 4, and freshman Anna Dzeva at No. 6. Beier's win clinched the match.
The Boilermakers will return to action next weekend, when they play at Indiana on March 24, and at Penn State on March 26. Purdue will play its next home match on April 1, against Ohio State.
