CLEARWATER, Fla. - A sixth-inning double accounted for the lone run of the game between the Purdue softball team and Tennessee Tech. The Golden Eagles won the game 1-0 at the USF/Adidas Invitational on Friday.

The Boilermakers put runners on second and third in the opening stanza after a pair of two-out singles by senior Tricia Lilley (North Canton, Ohio) and junior DaQueta Johnson (Ontario, Calif.), but could not break onto the scoreboard.

TTU registered a two-out double and a walk in the second, but a strikeout kept them from scoring. A strikeout nullified two Golden Eagle base runners again in the fourth.

Senior Kristen Schell (San Diego, Calif.) sent a one-out single into center field in the fifth, then moved to second on a fielding error by the center fielder. Pinch runner Kelly Miller (Indianapolis, Ind.) advanced to third on a ground out, but was left stranded by a pop up to second base.

Tennessee Tech broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth, scoring one run on a hit, a walk and a sacrifice. An Ashley Potts double to right center, scored Danielle Wallace, who walked and was sacrificed over to second. A strikeout prevented TTU from adding any more runs.

Senior Becky Stone (Belleville, Ill.) led off the seventh with a single to left center. Pinch runner Christina Trauger (Santa Ana, Calif.) moved to second on a sacrifice but was left stranded as a pair of strikeouts ended the game.

Purdue posted five hits in the game, led by Stone's 2-for-3 performance. TTU scored one run on three hits.

Bonnie Bynum earned the complete game victory for the Golden Eagles, while senior Diana LaRiva (Tustin, Calif.) was saddled with the loss for the Boilermakers.

Purdue returns to action at 11 a.m. when they take on the Northern Illinois Huskies.
