WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A five-match win streak came to an end Saturday when the Purdue women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 74 SMU. The 30th-ranked Boilermakers dropped to 5-3 (1-0 Big Ten) with the loss, while the Mustangs improved to 7-4.

SMU got on the scoreboard first, winning the doubles point with victories at Nos. 1 and 3.

The singles portion of the match was highly contested. Five of the six matches went to three sets, with four of 17 sets going to tiebreakers. Three more sets were decided by 7-5 scores.

Unfortunately for Purdue, the lone Boilermaker to pull out a win was freshman Randi Schuler, who beat Natalia Bubien 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 at No. 2. Schuler also won at No. 2 doubles with sophomore partner Brooke Beier.

Purdue will return to the court Sunday in Austin, Texas, where they will meet the 11th-ranked Longhorns.
