WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The first victory of the season came relatively easy for the Purdue women's tennis team, which defeated DePaul 6-1 on Saturday at the Lafayette Sports Center. The match was the first of a doubleheader that is scheduled to conclude with a contest between Purdue and Miami (Ohio) at 6:30 p.m.

Purdue entered the match with DePaul with a 0-2 record following road losses last weekend at No. 24 Wake Forest and No. 19 Tennessee. The 40th-ranked Boilermakers shook off the week-old results early, as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead by capturing the doubles point.

Purdue tore through singles, winning five of six matches. First off the court was freshman Mallory Voelker, who quickly disposed of Brenda Leung 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. Junior Hala Sufi, ranked 29th nationally, followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over 85th-ranked Gergana Ganeva at No. 1.

Fifty-fourth-ranked freshman Randi Schuler delivered the match-clinching win, a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Beatrix Csordas at No. 2.

Freshman Anna Dzeva added a straight-set win over Anja Mihaldenic at No. 5, and sophomore Brooke Beier did likewise at No. 3, with a victory over 100th-ranked Dunja Antunovic.

A 7-5, 6-1 win by DePaul's Bojana Murisic over senior Brittany Minna at No. 6 prevented the Boilermaker sweep.

The victory brought Purdue's record to 1-2, while the loss moved DePaul to 3-2.
