WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team suffered a season-opening loss at No. 24 Wake Forest on Friday. The 24th-ranked Demon Deacons handed the 42nd-ranked Boilermakers a 6-1 loss in Winston-Salem, N.C., in the first match of the year for both teams.
Purdue started off well, taking two of three doubles matches to win the first point. Junior Hala Sufi and freshman Mallory Voelker teamed for an 8-5 win at No. 1 over Alex Hirsch and Christian Tara. At No. 2, sophomore Brooke Beier and freshman Randi Schuler clinched the point with a 9-7 victory against Ashlee Davis and Jenna Loeb.
The rest of the match did not go as well for the Boilermakers, who surrendered all six singles matches in straight sets.
