The Purdue women's golf team defeated Oklahoma State in the first round of the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship on Friday.

The Boilermakers are the No. 2 seed in the event and ranked No. 3 in the country. Second-ranked UCLA is the No.1 seed in the event.

Purdue won three of five matches. Senior Onnarin Sattayabanphot earned a 6 and 5 win over Amanda Johnson. Freshmen Maria Hernandez and Christel Boeljon each picked up victories. Boeljon won 2-up and Hernandez won 6 and 5.

Junior Myrte Eikenaar and sophomore Whitney Frykman both dropped their first-round matches,

This Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship is a double-elimination event and is being held at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort. Invitation to the tournament was based on 2005 national championships finish.

Second-round play was suspended due to darkness. Purdue was leading Stanford in four of five matches through 14 holes. If the Boilermakers win, they will face the winner of the Arkansas/Texas A&M match. Arkansas is the No. 3 seed and Texas A&M is the No. 6 seed.

The conclusion of the second round will begin at 8 a.m. EST. The third round will follow in the afternoon.
