WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team wrapped up play at the Kentucky Fall Classic on Sunday, in Lexington.
The highest finisher for the Boilermakers was freshman Anya Dzeva, who took fifth place in Flight C singles. Dzeva won her opening-round match against Angela Dipastina of Ohio State, but dropped her second-round contest to Kyla Iwinski of Denver. After moving to the backdraw, Dzeva rebounded with straight-set wins over Megan Brown of Abilene Christian and Pooji Koomireddi of Middle Tennessee.
Freshman Mallory Voelker placed ninth of 16 in Flight B. She fell in three sets against Buckeye Kristin Messmer to start the tournament, then bounced back to win three straight.
In Flight D, senior Brittany Minna placed 13th. She won her last match in decisive fashion, beating Kim Underdonk of Eastern Kentucky 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Whitney Reys went 2-2 in Flight D.
In doubles, Dzeva and Voelker placed fourth in Flight B.
Select Purdue players will return to action this week, when they compete at the ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles, Calif. The national tournament is slated to run from Oct. 4 to 9.
