WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Seniors paced the Purdue Open as Lindsay Zinn and Laura Farley top the women's field, and David Rae finished second on the men's side on Friday afternoon at the Purdue Varsity Cross Country Course.
Eric Hammond, a sophomore, took first in the men's reace after defeating Rae by 10 seconds. Hammond's time of 19:51.0 paced the 6K course for the Boilermaker men.
Following Rae were junior Justin Stadt (20:03.4), junior Michial Jacob (20:22.1) and sophomore Zach Wilder (20:36.4). Stadt was the Boilermakers' top finisher in four of five races in 2004, a season which saw Rae redshirt.
In the women's 5K race, Zinn cruised to a first-place finish at 19:06.1, defeating the rest of the field by 46 seconds. Farley crossed the line at 19:52.2 for second place.
Completing the top five for the women were sophomore Anne Dillavou (20:09.7), freshman Elle Lammers (20:12.5), and junior Anne King (20:31.3).
The Purdue Open saw the entire Boilermaker cross country squads run unattached in an intrasquad competition.
The 2005 varsity season opens Friday, Sept. 9, as Purdue plays host to the Great American Legends. Other schools competing in the meet include Eastern Kentucky and DePaul.
