The Purdue men's golf team tied for third place at the Gopher Invitational in Wayzata, Minnesota. The event was hosted by Minnesota.
The Boilermakers were in second place after the first 36 holes on Saturday. Purdue fired a final-round 294 on Sunday to finish seven strokes behind Minnesota and Washington, which both totaled 883. Minnesota won the event after a Washington disqualification. The Boilermakers totaled 890 strokes and tied with Georgia State.
Juniors Pariya Junhasavasdikul and Peter Richardson tied for 14th place overall. Junhasavasdikul carded a final-round 74 and totaled 221 (+5) over the 54 holes. Richardson was tied for 25th after 36 holes, but fired a two-under 70 on Sunday, which tied for the second-lowest round of the day.
Junior Bobby Bennett tied for 20th overall. He totaled 223 and shot a 72 in the final round. Freshman Michael Randle was tied for 10th after action concluded on Saturday, but carded an 80 on Sunday. He finished in a tie for 26th.
Sophomore Santiago Russi tied for 30th after a final-round 78. He totaled 231 over the two days.
The event was held at the 7,020-yard, par-72 Spring Hill Golf Club. Spring Hill was designed by Tom Fazio.
The Boilermakers are in action again on Oct. 3 and 4 in the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge in Glenview, Ill.
