SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Purdue men's golf team fired a first-round 291 at the 2005 NCAA Men's Golf Central Regional Championships.
Rain delayed the beginning of the tournament until 10:20 a.m. CST. Only 15 of the 27 teams finished their first rounds before darkness fell on the course.
The Boilermakers are in 12th place overall and sixth among teams who finished their entire first round. Tulsa leads the event, but has yet to complete the first round.
Sophmores Bobby Bennett and Pariya Junhasavasdikul each fired a 71 on Thursday.
Freshman Santiago Russi carded a 74 and senior Dustin Cone notched a 75.
Junior Peter Richardson totaled a first-round 76.
There are three regional sites with 27 teams at each regional. The top 10 teams from each regional advance to the 2005 NCAA Men's Golf Championships on May 5 to 7. Each regional is a 54-hole event.
Purdue has advanced to three of the last four NCAA Championships.
The Central Regional Championships are being hosted by Notre Dame at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend. The course is a par 70 and is playing 7,011 yards.
The second round will begin on Friday after the conclusion of the remaining holes from the first round.
