The Purdue women's golf team moved up to fifth place after the second round of the 2005 NCAA Central Regional Championships in Lubbock, Texas.
The Boilermakers fired a 309 on Friday, which tied for the third-lowest round of the day. Their total of 604 over the first two rounds in merely one strokes behind the leaders.
Baylor, Auburn, Missouri and Texas A&M are all tied for the tournament lead. The four schools each totaled 603 strokes over the first two rounds.
For the second-straight day, the Boilermakers were led by junior Onnarin Sattayabanphot and Big Ten Freshman of the Year Whitney Frykman. The duo each fired 78 on Friday after carding a pair of 71s on Thursday. Their total of 149 has them tied for sixth overall.
Sophomore Myrte Eikenaar moved up from 27th place to 14th place after a team-low 76 on Friday. Eikenaar totaled 150 over the first two rounds.
Sophomore Caroline Haase fired a 77, second lowest on the team. She is tied for 57th overall. Redshirt-freshman Kara Eschbach is tied for 102nd after a second-round 89.
The NCAA Central Regional Championships is a 54-hole event and is being hosted by Texas Tech. The event is at the Jerry S. Rawls Golf Course.
The Boilermakers are ranked No. 33 in the latest Sagarin/Golfweek Poll.
Purdue joins No. 4 Arizona State, No. 20 Arkansas, No. 3 Auburn, No. 31 Baylor, No. 36 Kent State, Long Island, No. 12 Louisiana State, No. 27 Michigan, No. 39 Michigan State, No. 18 Missouri, No. 14 New Mexico, Notre Dame, No. 47 South Florida, No. 32 SMU, No. 21 Texas, No. 38 Texas A&M, No. 28 TCU, Texas Tech, No. 22 Tulsa, and No. 15 Wake Forest in the field.
The top eight teams from each regional advance to the 2005 NCAA Women's Golf Championships, held in Sunriver, Ore., from May 17 to 20. Purdue is one of eight schools to play in the last five NCAA Women's Golf Championships.
The Boilermakers have advanced to the NCAA regional championships every year since 1998. They have played in six central regionals and one east regional.
