WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 50 Iowa in a Big Ten Championships quarterfinal match Friday in East Lansing, Mich. The 49th-ranked Boilermakers finished their regular season with a 10-13 record. The Hawkeyes, now 14-8, advanced to a Saturday semifinal contest with either Indiana or Michigan.

Sixth-seeded Purdue had defeated third-seeded Iowa 5-2 on April 24. In the second meeting, the Hawkeyes came out on top. They took the first point of the match by winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

In singles, Iowa recorded the three additional wins it needed for the team victory, at Nos, 1, 3 and 2, before the Boilermakers could get on the scoreboard. Purdue led all three remaining singles matches that were abandoned.

Purdue concluded the spring with eight victories in its last 12 matches, and tied for fourth in the Big Ten final regular-season standings.

Despite having a sub-.500 record, the Boilermakers are hoping their schedule and strong finish earn them an at-large berth to the NCAA Championships. The 64-team field will be announced May 4.

Purdue's last trip to the national tournament came in 2003.
