WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team advanced to a Big Ten Championships quarterfinal with a 4-0 victory over Minnesota on Wednesday in East Lansing, Mich. The 49th-ranked Boilermakers, seeded sixth in the tournament, will face third-seeded and 50th-ranked Iowa on Friday, at 2 p.m.

The Boilermakers came through with two doubles victories to take the first point of the match. Winning the first of the two was the sophomore-freshman pair of Hala Sufi and Brooke Beier at No. 2. The senior-freshman combo of Amy Walgenbach and Stephanie Wooten then delivered the point-clinching win at No. 3.

The Boilermakers, who defeated Minnesota 7-0 less than one week ago, needed just three wins in singles to claim the team victory. They had little trouble accomplishing the task, as senior Shawna Zuccarini, Walgenbach and sophomore Alyssa Rodriguez finished off their opponents in straight sets at Nos. 3, 5 and 6, in order.

The remainder of the singles matches were abandoned once Purdue had earned its four points.

Purdue's victory helped it reach the Big Ten quarterfinals for the 11th consecutive year. A win over Iowa on Friday would send the Boilermakers to the semifinals for the third time in school history.

Purdue beat Iowa 5-2 on April 24.
