11th At The Bryan

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. - The Purdue women's golf team finished in 11th place at the 2005 Bryan National Collegiate.

The Boilermakers totaled 946 strokes over the three days. Purdue fired a final-round 321. It was in 15th place after day one and tied for 12th after the second round.

Duke won the event with a total of 883. Tennessee finished second, and Georgia placed third.

Purdue's top finisher was Myrte Eikenaar, who fired a final-round 77. Sunday's rollercoaster-like round featured five birdies, six bogeys and two double-bogeys. Eikenaar tied for 20th overall, her fourth top-20 placing of the spring season.

Freshman Whitney Frykman had a strong tournament and tied for 32nd overall. She broke 80 in each round and fired a final-round 79 to total 233 over the three days.

Junior Onnarin Sattayabanphot tied for 35th overall after a total of 234 for the event. She carded a final-round 82.

Sophomore Caroline Haase finished 75th. She totaled 250 and carded an 83 on Sunday. Redshirt freshman Kara Eschbach recorded an 89 in the final round and finished in 80th place.

Purdue's best finish in the event was a fourth-place showing in 2001. This is the eighth year for the tournament. The Boilermakers have competed in the event the last five seasons.

The 18-team event was hosted by the Wake Forest University and held at the Bryan Park Champions Course. The course is a par 72, 6,064-yard layout.

The Boilermakers were the only Big Ten school competing in the event.

The Boilermakers are in action again on April 9 and 10, when they host the Lady Boilermaker Invitational at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
