WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Notre Dame beat Purdue to extend two streaks the Boilermaker men's tennis team would like to see come to an end. The 20th-ranked Fighting Irish picked up a 7-0 victory Monday at the Varsity Tennis Courts, marking their 15th-straight win in the series with Purdue, which currently is ranked 68th. The defeat ran the Boilermakers' consecutive-loss count to six, dating to their last win against No. 17 Vanderbilt more than one month ago.

Notre Dame improved to 15-5 with the win, while Purdue dropped to 3-9 overall (0-3 Big Ten).

Notre Dame got off to a quick start, winning the doubles point behind victories at No. 1 and No. 2. The Fighting Irish then dominated in singles, winning five of six first sets. They went on to win all six matches, four in straight sets.

Junior Colin Foster and sophomore Scott Warner recorded the lone victory of the day for the Boilermakers. The No. 3 doubles pair beat Stephen Bass and Sheeva Parbhu 8-6.

Purdue head coach Tim Madden said his team is searching for leadership with seven regular-season matches remaining on its schedule.

"I'm trying to remain optimistic because there still is a lot of tennis to be played this year, but we need to make some changes," Madden said. "Right now we're not getting the kind of leadership we need from our senior class, so we are going to ask our younger players to get more involved. We want to see if they can create some positive energy and help get this thing turned around."

Madden and the Boilermakers will have their first chance to test out the changes Sunday, when they play host to Ohio State. The Buckeyes currently are ranked 34th in the nation.
