WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team lost 7-0 at No. 30 North Carolina on Sunday. The defeat makes the 68th-ranked Boilermakers 0-2 for the weekend after losing to No. 57 N.C. State on Saturday and drops their overall record to 1-2. The Tar Heels are now 6-2 on the season.
Purdue's bright spot on the day was in doubles at the No. 2 position. Seniors Sounak Chatterjee and Filip Koziell defeated David Stone and Sebastian Guejman 8-5.
Purdue struggled early and often in singles, losing all six matches. At the No. 1 spot, 76th-ranked Paul Rose was defeated by Raian Luchici who is ranked No. 55 in the national rankings.
Purdue head coach Tim Madden was unhappy about the loss.
"It's a disappointing weekend for us because we had a great opportunity to beat some high-ranked teams," said Madden.
Madden says that the key to winning is consistency.
"We have to compete from start to finish in order to win," said Madden "If we can do that, then we will put ourselves in a better opportunity to be more competitive."
The Boilermakers have the week off and return to the court on Feb. 19 when they play at Ball State. The match will begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
