Sufi's Run Ends

Oct. 25, 2004

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Hala Sufi's run at an ITA Midwest Regional singles championship came to a halt Monday in Minneapolis. The Purdue women's tennis sophomore bowed out in the quarterfinals to Audra Cohen of Northwestern.

Cohen, the top seed in the tournament, beat the seventh-seeded and 93rd-ranked Sufi by a 6-1, 6-1 score at the Baseline Tennis Center.

Purdue assistant coach Chris Karges-Iandolo said Sufi made a statement by finishing as one of the final eight players in the tournament.

"Hala did a lot over the last three days to establish herself as one of the best players in the Midwest," Karges-Iandolo said.

Sufi and the Boilermakers will return to action Nov. 5, in the three-day Hoosier Classic Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
