WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Brooke Beier inched closer to the ITA Midwest Regional Championships main draw with two singles victories Thursday in Minneapolis. The freshman women's tennis player needs to win one more match to qualify for the main draw.
Beier won her first-round qualifying match at the Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center against Michelle Hawes of Butler by a 6-3, 6-1 score. She followed that with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 win against Daniela Martinez of Northern Illinois in the second round.
Beier will play Friday at 8:30 a.m., for the right to advance to the singles main draw.
Lara Burgarello also competed in singles qualifying Thursday. The senior dropped her first-round match 6-4, 6-4 to Liz Donohue of Notre Dame.
The ITA Midwest Regional Championships at the University of Minnesota will continue through Oct. 26. Singles qualifying will conclude Friday, while doubles main draw competition will begin Friday. Singles main draw competition will begin Saturday.
