WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team finished Day One at the 18th-annual Notre Dame Tom Fallon Invitational on Friday. Two days remain in the hidden dual tournament in South Bend.
The Boilermakers began Friday with a singles match against the host Fighting Irish. Sophomore Scott Warner was the lone victorious Purdue player; he defeated Yuichi Uda 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 6 spot. Sophomore Paul Rose, the nation's 56th-ranked singles player, lost 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 to Stephen Bass at No. 1.
Rose rebounded in the afternoon, however, beating Sergi Vila of Drake 7-5, 6-0. Joining Rose in the win column against the Bulldogs was classmate Colin Foster, who downed Chris Lueth 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5.
Sophomore Eric Hodgman picked up a 6-4, 6-2 singles win against Nick Chimerakis of Notre Dame.
In doubles against Drake, Foster and senior Sounak Chatterjee beat Vila and Dalibor David 8-6 at the No. 2 position. Rose and sophomore Chris Cozad lost 8-6 to Jonathan Tishler and Jack Frankowicz at No. 1.
Purdue will continue Saturday with a morning singles match against William & Mary, followed by two afternoon doubles matches against William & Mary and Notre Dame.
