AUSTIN, Texas - In a day soaked by rain, the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships entertained a reduced schedule and saw one Boilermaker come just shy of qualifying for a finals.

Lindsay Blaine, a freshman from Lyle, Wash., placed seventh in Flight 1 of the women's javelin with a throw of 146-07 (44.69m). After the second flight finished preliminaries, Blaine's effort was four feet shy of a finals berth, placing her 14th overall. The top 12 preliminary throws advanced to Friday evening's finals.

Origanally scheduled for Wednesday evening, the women's 3000 Steeplechase, featuring Purdue junior Amber Ferner (West Lafayette, Ind.), was rescheduled for Thursday evening's Session Four. Ferner and the rest of the steeplechase field will hear the starting gun at 9 p.m.
