HOT SPRINGS, Va. - The Purdue men's golf team moved up four places, to 14th after the second round of the NCAA Men's Golf National Championships.
The Boilermakers fired a second-round 285, the fifth-lowest round of the day. Purdue was in a five-way tie for 18th after Tuesday's round. The Boilermakers have a total of 577 over the first two rounds. California leads the event with a two-round 568. Purdue is the highest-ranking Big Ten team. Penn State is in 15th place.
Purdue was led for the second-straight day by senior Shiv Kapur. Kapur fired a two-under 68 and recorded four birdies and two bogeys. He moved from all the way up the leaderboard into a tie for 15th overall.
Freshman Pariya Junhasavasdikul shot an even-par 70 on Wednesday. He is tied for 23rd after a two round total of 142.
Freshman Peter Richardson carded a 73 and is tied for 75th overall. Junior Dustin Cone shot a 74 on Wednesday and is tied for 88th place.
Senior Luke Epp was is tied for 150th after a second-round 78.
Purdue tees off in the third round at 8:30 a.m. ET on Thursday.
The event is being hosted by Virginia Tech on the par-70, 6,679-yard Cascades at the Homestead Golf Course in Hot Springs, Va. The tournament features 18 holes on each of the next two days.
The Boilermakers advanced to the event after a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Central Regional Championships from May 20 to 22 at Purdue's Kampen Course.
Purdue is ranked No. 49 in the current golfweek.com poll. This is the third time in the last four seasons the Boilermakers are playing in the NCAA Championships. They are one of 19 teams to accomplish that feat.
