Rainy First Round

AUBURN, Ala. - The Purdue women's golf team is tied for 20th place after the first round of the NCAA Women's Golf National Championships. Lightning interrupted play for an hour during the day.

The Boilermakers fired a first-round 307 in soggy conditions on Tuesday and trail Oklahoma State by 19 strokes for the tournament lead.

Purdue was led by senior Beth Hermes, who fired a one-under 71. Hermes is tied for fifth overall. She birdied two holes and had one bogey.

Sophomore Onnarin Sattayabanphot fired a 74, after going four-under on the front nine. Sattayabanphot is tied for 34th overall.

Freshman Maria Stinson is tied for 97th overall after a first-round 79. Freshman Myrte Eikenaar shot an 83 on Tuesday. She is in 119th place overall.

Freshman Caroline Haase carded an 84 in the first round and is tied for 120th overall.

The event is being hosted by Auburn on the par-72, 6,215-yard Grand National Lake Golf Course in Auburn, Ala. The tournament features 18 holes on each of the next two days.

Purdue is ranked No. 40 in the current golfweek.com poll. This is the seventh-straight season, the Boilermakers are playing in the postseason and the fifth-straight season they have advanced to the NCAA Championships. Purdue is one of seven schools to accomplish the feat.
