The Purdue women's golf team finished sixth at the NCAA Women's Golf Central Regional Championships. By placing in the top eight, the Boilermakers earned their fifth-straight appearance to the NCAA Women's Golf Championships.
The Boilermakers fired a final-round 303 and totaled a 917 over the three days. Purdue was tied for seventh after the first round and moved up to sixth after Friday's action.
Purdue joined Michigan State, which placed third, as the only two Big Ten schools to advance to the NCAA championships from the Central Regional. Vanderbilt won the tournament with a three-day total of 893.
Purdue was led by freshman Myrte Eikenaar, who finished fourth overall. Eikenaar was in solo possession of fourth place after Friday. She carded a 75 on Saturday and totaled a 221 over the three days.
Senior Beth Hermes and sophomore Onnarin Sattayabanphot both made final-day comebacks. The duo was tied for 53rd after the first two rounds but moved up into a tie for 36th. Both shot a 75 on Saturday and totaled a 233.
Freshman Caroline Haase has a strong showing and tied for 49th overall. She fired an 82 on Saturday, but provided a 73 in the tournament's first round.
Freshman Maria Stinson recorded a 78 on Saturday and tied for 63rd overall.
The event was hosted by Illinois State on the ISU Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
Vanderbilt, Arizona, Michigan State, USC, Baylor, Purdue, Mew Mexico and Texas A&M advance NCAA championships. The NCAA Women's Golf National Championships are from May 18 to 21 in Auburn, Ala.
Purdue is ranked No. 40 in the current golfweek.com poll. This is the seventh-straight season, the Boilermakers are playing in the postseason. Purdue is one of 12 schools to play in the national championship tournament in the last four-straight seasons.
