ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Purdue men's golf team is tied for fourth after the first two rounds of the 2004 Big Ten Championships. Michigan is hosting the event in Ann Arbor.
Purdue fired a 287 in the morning on Saturday and then carded a 284 in the afternoon. The Boilermakers totaled a 576 and are tied with Penn State. Ohio State leads the event after a total of 558 on the first day.
The Boilermakers were led by senior Luke Epp and freshman Peter Richardson. Both are tied for 12th overall. The duo shot a 71 in the morning and a 72 in the afternoon to total a 143.
Senior Shiv Kapur is tied for 16th after a 144 on the day. He carded a par of 72s. Freshman Pariya Junhasavasdikul is tied for 24th. He shot back-to-back 73s on Saturday.
Junior Dustin Cone is tied for 50th after a 155. He shot a 79 and 76 on the day.
The event's final 18 holes will conclude on Sunday. The University of Michigan Golf Course is a par 71, 6,704-yard layout.
The Boilermakers finished fifth in last years event. Purdue is ranked No. 54 in the latest Golfweek.com poll. Kapur is the 120th ranked player in the country and Richardson is No. 124.
A strong showing at the Big Ten tournament should give the Boilermakers their third bid to the NCAA regional championships in the last four seasons.
