BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Boilermaker softball team will look to settle the score in West Lafayette on Sunday, after falling to Indiana 7-2 on the Hoosiers' senior day in Bloomington. Purdue will look to pick up its second-straight senior day win at home in tomorrow's 1 p.m. contest.

Sophomore Staci Falzon tallied the game's first hit with a lead-off single to center. A sacrifice by senior Angela Knight moved her to second, but a fly out and pop up left her stranded.

Indiana put the first run on the scoreboard with a single tally in the bottom of the first. Abby Stark drew the lead-off walk, then was sacrificed over to second. Tory Yamaguchi then singled to right to put runners at the corners for Lauren Hines, who delivered on the RBI opportunity with a single to left. The next batter then grounded into a double play to end the stanza.

Freshman DaQueta Johnson tied it up with one swing of the bat with a solo home run to left to start the second inning. Junior Shelli Messer reached on a fielding error by the third baseman, then sophomore Lauren Devich climbed aboard on a throwing error by the first baseman on a sacrifice attempt. Freshman Katie Fortune advanced both runners with a successful sacrifice, before redshirt sophomore Kristen Schell sent a pinch hit single through the right side to score Messer. A pair of ground outs prevented the other two runners from scoring.

The Hoosiers put up four runs in the third to regain the lead. After a ground out, Kim Richards was hit by a pitch. Pinch runner Katie Witham advanced to third on a Yamaguchi single off the center field wall. Hines then doubled to left, scoring Witham. Karly McCormack followed with a single through the left side, which scored Yamaguchi from third. Sophomore Diana LaRiva came to pitch and struck out Hoosier relief pitcher Mariangee Bogado swinging. Val White then singled to center scoring both Hines and McCormack before being punched out trying to stretch the hit into a double.

IU added another pair of runs in the fourth on two hits and three Purdue miscues. The two-out rally started with a single up the middle by Stark. She then scored as Richards singled to right and advanced to third on a fielding error. Yamaguchi then reached on a fielding error by the shortstop, which allowed Richards to score. A ground out two batters later ended the inning.

Purdue put two runners on in the seventh to no avail. Devich reached on an error by the shortstop, then junior Katie Absher put a two-out single through the left side. A ground out, however, gave the Hoosiers the victory.

Indiana scored seven runs on eight hits and three Purdue miscues, while the Boilermakers put up two runs on four hits and three Hoosier errors. Bogado (16-15) earned the win after throwing five and two-thirds innings of relief. Freshman Brooke Baker (17-12) was charged with the loss after pitching two and one-third innings. LaRiva struck out two batters in relief.
