The Purdue women's golf team is in sixth place after the second round of the NCAA Women's Golf Central Regional Championships.
The Boilermakers fired a 309 in the second round and trail Vanderbilt and Michigan State by nine strokes for the tournament lead. Purdue was one of six teams to shoot lower than 310 on Friday. The Boilermakers were tied for seventh after the first round.
Purdue was led by freshman Myrte Eikenaar, who is in fourth place overall. Eikenaar fired a 73 on Friday and has a total of 146 over the first two rounds.
Freshman Caroline Haase is tied for 20th overall. She fired a second-round 81 and has a total of 154 over the two days.
Senior Beth Hermes and sophomore Onnarin Sattayabanphot are both tied for 53rd overall. Hermes fired a 78 on Friday and Sattayabanphot totaled a 79.
Freshman Maria Stinson recorded a 79 and is tied for 64th place.
The event is being hosted by Illinois State on the ISU Golf Course in Normal, Ill. The final 18 holes are held on Saturday.
The top eight teams from the central regional advance to the NCAA championships. The NCAA Women's Golf National Championships are from May 18 to 21 in Auburn, Ala.
Purdue is ranked No. 40 in the current golfweek.com poll. This is the seventh-straight season, the Boilermakers are playing in the postseason. Purdue is one of 12 schools to play in the national championship tournament in the last four-straight seasons.
