DES MOINES, IOWA - Purdue's distance trio claimed three of the top fifteen spots during Friday's running of the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday at the Drake Relays. Sophomore and West Lafayette native Amber Ferner clocked the team's fastest time at 10:21.85.
Ferner's time gave her a second place showing, while Kara Lahey placed fourth with a personal best time of 10:34.70. Kaleena Cappel finished 14th at 11:20.82.
Ida Nilsson from Northern Arizona won the race in 9:57.03, which is one of the fastest times in the world this year.
Purdue's stay at the Drake concludes Saturday with the men's 3,000-meter steeplchase. The Boilermakers will be represented by David Rae and Michael Ciccarelli.
Friday at 3 p.m., Purdue plays host to the Big Ten Preview Invitational at Rankin Track and Field. The two-day meet features conference rivals, Illinois and Indiana, as well as Notre Dame, DePaul and Marquette. Saturday's competitions at Rankin begin at 10 a.m.
Also this weekend, Purdue's throwing corps and high jumper Shaun Guice will compete at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. Recaps of the Penn Relays and Big Ten Preview will be posted on purduesports.com later tonight.
