PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Purdue's throwers experienced a tough outing during the second day of the Penn Relays. Freshman Tyler Miller produced the Boilermakers' best finish, placing eighth in the shot put at 52 feet, 7 1/4 inches.
Elsewhere in the field, Scott Hecht placed ninth in the shot put championships, recording a top mark of 56-8 and Keith McBride finished 13th in the discus at 149-10.
Saturday, the Purdue throwing corps will compete in the hammer throw, which is considered their top event. Current throwers J. P. Smolenski, Hecht and McBride own three of the top five marks in school history.
Also on Saturday, six-time All-American Shaun Guice will compete in the high jump championship. Complete and detailed results of the Penn Relays can be found at pennathletics.com.
Friday and Saturday, Purdue plays host to the Big Ten Preview Invitational at Rankin Track and Field. The two-day meet features conference rivals, Illinois and Indiana, as well as Notre Dame, DePaul and Marquette. Saturday's competitions at Rankin begin at 10 a.m.
